The KLM booking tool offers 2 options:
e-tickets and standard paper tickets.

e-tickets: you receive am email confirmation with the Trip Details and Receipt, you can use it to check-in.
This is fast and accurate, you can use the service 365/24/7 until three hours before your flght is scheduled to leave.

Paper tickets : the same booking can either be sent to your given address in the country of your first departure or you can collected at the airport.

From 7 to two 2 days before departure, you are able to check your flight reservations and status online. All you need is your reservation code and your last name.  When you have an eticket by using the Internet check-in you will be able to select your seat as of 30 hours before departure.

You no longer need to pick up your paper ticket at the airport or receive it by mail. When you book an e-ticket, you’re ready to go!
E-TICKET It’s safe. As soon as you book an e-ticket, KLM bears the responsibility for the ticket and stores your ticket in the KLM e-ticket database. So an electronic ticket can’t be lost or stolen.

You now have the choice of avoiding the queues at the airport. With INTERNET CHECK- IN you can now check in for your flight online, select the seat you want and print your boarding pass immediately!. Limitation of uses may apply.
